Plymouth couple jailed for murder of Stephen Fogg

|News, Violent crime

A man and a woman have been jailed for the murder of Stephen Fogg, who was killed at his home near Plymouth between 14 and 17 December 2020.

Lee Chugg and Jodie Swannick, both from Plymouth, were each sentenced to life imprisonment at Exeter Crown Court today. Chugg will serve a minimum term of 20 years and Swannick a minimum term of 18 years before they can be considered for release. They had been convicted by a jury on 19 May 2022.

60-year-old Stephen Fogg had learning difficulties and worked part time at a charity shop in Plymstock. He was attacked in the kitchen of his bungalow in Hawthorn Drive, Wembury, by drug addicts Chugg and Swannick, who brutally stamped him to death. Chugg and Swannick were regular visitors to Mr Fogg’s bungalow before his death and had come to the house in the hope of finding alcohol or money to steal.

Alex Allsop of the CPS said: “Stephen Fogg was a vulnerable victim who Chugg and Swannick exploited and then brutally killed in his own home.

“The defendants both blamed each other, but forensic evidence gathered in the police investigation showed that they had both taken part in the attack. This strong evidence enabled the CPS to build a compelling case that resulted in the jury reaching a guilty verdict.

“Stephen Fogg had no remaining family, but our thoughts are with everyone who knew him.”
