CPS West Midlands Magistrates’ Court unit successfully prosecuted domestic abuse cases during the COVID-19 pandemic. Below are just a few cases prosecuted between March and June 2020.

The CPS has been praised for its response to the coronavirus pandemic in a report published today.

The North East’s Chief Crown Prosecutor (CCP) has spoken today of her continuing commitment to the prosecution of domestic abuse, even in cases that do not have the support of the victim.

“Police investigators must balance the need to follow all reasonable lines of enquiry, guaranteeing a fair trial, with the need to respect privacy. We thank the Information Commissioner for this detailed and thoughtful report which acknowledges the complexity of this issue, and the growing volumes of data which exist in criminal cases. We will now carefully consider the recommendations of the report.

A CPS review of completed prosecutions under coronavirus laws last month has found the legislation was correctly applied in almost 85 per cent of cases.
