Advocacy is central to our work as prosecutors. CPS advocates now appear in all courts and across the full range of cases. This is as it should be. But whether it is one of our own lawyers or Associate Prosecutors, or a member of the private Bar representing the Crown, the very highest standards of advocacy are essential. These new and updated National Standards of Advocacy clearly set out what we expect from all prosecution advocates. By adhering to them we shall serve the public and uphold justice.

This document sets out the approach taken by the Crown Prosecution Service to paying Graduated Fee Scheme (GFS) F cases where a Crown Advocate (CA) returns a brief to an external advocate at the Bar or an external advocate at the Bar returns a brief to a CA.

This document defines the services which the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) expects of internal and external advocates in the preparation of cases and invoicing of fees which fall to be paid in accordance with the Very High Cost Case (VHCC) fee scheme.

This protocol is an agreement between HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Its purpose is to set a framework for co-operation, exchange of information, advance notification and joint working with respect to custody time limits (CTLs). It does not create legal obligations or restrictions on either party. It replaces the protocol dated 1 December 2014.

In 2017, the government introduced legislation that made it statutory for organisations with 250 or more employees to report annually on their gender pay gap.

The Trans Equality Statement replaces the CPS Transgender Equality Management Guidance first produced in 2006, and last updated in 2014 with community input. In 2018, community stakeholders told us that our management guidance had served its purpose and should be replaced by a much shorter, public-facing document which set out our key commitments and linked to relevant policy, guidance and research.
