My role as a digital project manager

My background

Before joining the CPS, I worked for a local police force. I started in the control room and then moved into project management roles in estates and IT.

After having my second child, l decided to apply to the CPS as they're ranked as a top 10 employer for working families. The work-life balance and the opportunity to work within a digital team appealed to me. I work flexible compressed hours and come into the office when there's a purpose, for example for wellbeing or engagement reasons.

My typical day

My role involves working with project managers within the change team on their communications plans. I help them plan written communications for the key milestones in their projects. I'm also responsible for creating the team blog, maintaining the Digital Information Directorate intranet site and managing content. And I’m currently the lead on the communications working group for a project introducing digital jury bundles.

My inspiration

I love working in a digital role within the CPS. I'm learning about advances in technology, building my internal and external network, and writing and creating content. There are opportunities for development too - I'm looking towards user experience design and writing.

The best part is the work-life balance. Being able to work from home around school runs alleviates stress, and I feel I can bring my best self to work. It naturally breaks up my day to walk and get some fresh air, so I always feel motivated when I log back in.

My biggest learning

Digital is the future and we’re living in exciting times with advancing technology. To work in a role that supports the communications of CPS projects delivering these changes is something I'm hugely proud of.
