Woman sentenced for providing false information on police form after car crash

|News, Fraud and economic crime

A woman who gave false information on a police form following a car crash has been sentenced for doing an act intending to pervert the course of justice.

Danuta Czajk, 45, was the passenger in a VW Transporter which reversed into another vehicle on 10 December 2024. The VW Transporter was being driven by a male.

North Wales Police were contacted by the driver of the vehicle which was hit, who described the male driver and female passenger of the VW Transporter, providing the police with a photograph of the pair. At the time, the unknown male driver had refused to provide his details to the motorist. A police investigation uncovered Czajk as the driver insured on the vehicle.

A Notice of Intended Prosecution was sent to Czajk given that she was the only person insured to drive the VW Transporter. Czajk signed and returned the form saying that she was the driver at the time of the collision.

Czajk was interviewed by the police and answered “no comment” to the questions. The officer recognised her as the female in the photograph, and as the passenger of the car – not the driver – as per the witnesses’ testimony.

When the case came before Mold Crown Court, Czajk pleaded guilty to the offence of doing an act intending to pervert the course of justice.

Deanne McGinty said: “Czajk signed an official form saying she was the driver of a vehicle when she was not.

“Acts such as this can lead to the Criminal Justice System being undermined and are taken very seriously by the Crown Prosecution Service.

“This case serves as a reminder to vehicle owners and drivers of the importance of providing correct information when asked to do so by the police or other authorities.”

Danuta Czajk was sentenced at Mold Crown Court to eight months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to complete 15 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and three months trail monitoring.
