Two men sentenced for exploitation of teenage girl
Two men have been sentenced at Newport Crown Court for exploiting a vulnerable 14-year-old girl in care. One of the men was also sentenced for rape.
On 6 September 2021 Azad Ahmed, 50, and Wasee Shikel, 51, travelled from Cardiff to the Port Talbot area where they met two teenage girls.
The two girls were intoxicated and were driven to a remote location. Ahmed then orally raped one of the girls in the back of the vehicle. Both men then gave the two girls cannabis and alcohol.
On 20 September 2021, the same two girls were collected again by the two men. Ahmed again orally raped the same victim and committed a further sexual assault.
Ahmed and Shikel were both convicted following a trial.
John Griffiths of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “The defendants targeted a vulnerable girl and plied her with drugs and alcohol, so the sexual assaults could take place.
“Their offending was calculated and cold-hearted, with no regard for the victim.
“The victim showed great courage in coming forward and speaking up against these men. Her strength in doing so allowed the Crown Prosecution Service to bring these abusers to justice.
“The Crown Prosecution Service takes all allegations of sexual abuse extremely seriously and is committed to bringing offenders to justice whenever our legal test is met.”
Both men were sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment with a four-year extension, and an indefinite restraining order was imposed on both men.
