The Retention & Disposal Schedule policy provides a management tool for identifying and determining the retention and disposal of information and records created by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and contains the major categories of information and records it creates. It provides guidance to enable compliance with legal obligations.
HMCPSI has today [8 November 2018] published a report into the work of the CPS Victim Liaison Units (VLUs) with a focus on the timeliness and quality of the letters sent to victims of crime when charges are stopped or substantially altered, and those letters sent in response to complaints or a victim’s right to review.
In the case at the centre of this judgment, a Crown Court judge stayed proceedings after ruling the failure to seize a mobile telephone belonging to one of the complainants meant the defendant could not have a fair trial.
