Man who attempted to kill a nurse in hospital stabbing jailed

A man who attempted to kill a nurse in a hospital stabbing has today been jailed.

Romon Haque, 38, was jailed for 22 years plus a six-year extended licence, at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, after being found guilty of attempting to murder a nurse in a hospital stabbing last year.

Claire Aitken, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, said: “Romon Haque must now face the consequences of his frenzied, savage attack on a nurse who was caring for patients at Oldham Royal Hospital.

“Haque repeatedly stabbed the nurse with scissors, in a bid to end her life, simply because he didn’t want to wait for his medication.

“My thoughts are with the nurse, who has suffered physically and mentally, due to Haque’s vicious and unprovoked attack.

"I hope as Haque begins his prison sentence, the brave victim can move forward, rebuild and continue to carry out the job she loves.”
