Guilty plea over death of pensioner in fatal collision

A man has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, after a man in his 80s was hit and killed by a car in Medway, Kent.

Pedestrian Tom Wallace, who was 89-years-old, was hit and carried by the car, driven by Albert Matraxhiu, on Monday 29 December in Gillingham.

On Friday (30 January), Matraxhiu pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of causing death by careless driving but asked for the case to be relisted today (Monday 2 February) to plead guilty to the more serious charge.

Sarah Wilkinson, Senior Crown Prosecutor, from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Since the case was first submitted to us, the Crown Prosecution Service has worked closely with our police colleagues to build the strongest possible case against both defendants.

“In the end, this left Matraxhiu with no option but to plead guilty to all the charges against him just over a month after the collision took place.

“Our thoughts remain with Mr. Wallace’s family and friends at this terrible time.”
