Two jailed for conspiracy to murder

A woman and her lover have been jailed for conspiring to murder her husband.

Ethel Michelle Mills, 46, known as Michelle, had been having an extra-marital relationship with 46-year-old Geraint Berry. Together they plotted to murder her husband.

On 20 September 2024, when Mrs Mills and her husband, Christopher Mills, were in their caravan in Cenarth, two masked men burst in and assaulted Mr Mills. The intruders had cable ties, gas masks and imitation firearms with them.

Mr Mills was able to fight off the intruders, who fled the caravan park, but they were found hiding in bushes a short distance away by a police helicopter.

Police recovered a fake suicide note, supposedly from Mr Mills, which had DNA on the seal that matched his wife Michelle Mills’ DNA.

A jury at Swansea Crown Court, convicted Michelle Mills and Geraint Berry of conspiracy to murder, having heard all the evidence in the case.

A third defendant, Steven Thomas, pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. The jury found him not guilty of conspiracy to murder.

Georgia Jones from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “This was a devious, callous and murderous plot devised by a wife and her lover to kill her husband.

“The evidence painted a clear picture, showing that the two defendants had been discussing different ways of killing Mr Mills over the weeks leading up to the attack.

“However, their plans fell apart when Mr Mills managed to bravely fight off his attackers.

“We would like to thank Mr Mills, and the other witnesses, for their support throughout this case, enabling us to bring these offenders to justice.”

Ethel Michelle Mills and Geraint Berry were both sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment. Steven Thomas was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment.

All three were sentenced on 19 December 2025 at Swansea Crown Court.
