Convicted rapist jailed for further attacks against women

A man who had previously been convicted of a sex attack has today been jailed for further attacks on three more women.

Bruno Sala, 39, previously of Havant, Portsmouth, formed relationships with each of the women between 2019 to 2020, before setting them up to be raped and abused by himself and other men. He has today been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years.

One of his accomplices, Edson Domingos, 40, of Southsea, Portsmouth was also tried and found guilty of the rape of one of the women. Today he has been sentenced to 15 years, extended for an additional three years.

Sala denied ever being violent towards the women and claimed that all sexual intercourse and activity was consensual. Domingos claimed that he never had sexual contact with the woman, only having met her once at a barbeque.

However, prosecutors from CPS Wessex unravelled their lies to a jury, proving that the men were responsible for the extensive rape and abuse of the victims.

John Montague, Senior District Crown Prosecutor with CPS Wessex, said,: “Bruno Sala poses a significant danger to society. He did not see these women as people – he saw them as objects he could use, humiliate and dominate.

“Sala took pleasure in knowing the extreme harm he was causing these women, and others, like Domingos, took advantage of their vulnerability for their own sexual gratification.

“The prosecution team presented evidence such as witness testimony, phone data and evidence of injuries to build a robust case and secure convictions.

“Most importantly, I would like to commend the courage of these women – who, in the face of significant trauma, have in turn helped secure justice against these dangerous men.”

Each of the victims told how they had met Sala on dating apps, and that the relationships quickly intensified, describing him initially as “gentle and loving”, buying them gifts and introducing their children to each other.

All the women described his demeanour suddenly changing later into the relationship, punishing them for perceived slights through rapes and physical assaults.

Sala had plied one of the women with cocaine and alcohol before raping her, and subjecting another to extreme humiliation.

From there, it became Sala’s expectation that the women would sleep with different men, including Domingos, and when they refused, Sala would rape, assault and demean them until they agreed.
