Men sentenced for arson with intent to endanger life after setting fire to house
Two men who set a terraced house alight in Trethomas have been sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.
Dean Reddington, 40, was the passenger of a Vauxhall vehicle being driven by Dean Eastwood, 34. They drove to the street in Trethomas late at night on 25 June 2025.
The occupant of the house had just parked her car and was in the street and noticed the Vauxhall. Both men got out of their vehicle, carrying containers with tubes attached, and Reddington approached the woman’s house and smashed a window. Flames were then seen engulfing the front of the house.
The driver, Eastwood, ran after the woman who managed to escape.
The two men drove away from the area and were found by police shortly afterwards parked on the hard shoulder on the M4 motorway. The officer who attended noticed that Reddington had a cut to his hand which was bleeding.
Millie Davies of the CPS said: “The two men’s actions were calculated and deliberate, having driven to Trethomas to set the house on fire.
“They showed no regard for the safety of anyone who could have been in the property or for other homeowners.
“This must have been a frightening experience for the victim and the other residents.
“The Crown Prosecution Service presented strong evidence to the Court which resulted in these convictions.”
Both men were sentenced on 16 September 2025 to six years and nine months’ imprisonment.
