Swansea man sentenced for entering bedrooms whilst occupants slept
A man who entered three homes in Swansea, rummaged through drawers and exposed himself, has been sentenced at Swansea Crown Court.
Evan Powell, 21, entered the properties in the Brynmill area, during the early hours of 31 October 2024.
The woman living at one address woke at about 5am, to see Powell standing in her bedroom, before he went downstairs and left the property. The woman then found out that Powell had also been in to her child’s bedroom and had looked through their drawers.
About an hour later, Powell entered a second property nearby. The woman sleeping there woke up to find Powell stood over her with his genitals exposed. He was chased from the house and police were called.
Powell also entered a third property, waking the occupant by opening the bedroom door, and then ran out of the house.
Enquiries conducted by the police established that Powell had tried to enter a fourth property but had been unsuccessful.
Carolina Mayorga-Williams of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Waking up to find a stranger in your or your child’s bedroom must be a terrifying experience and violates a person’s right to feel safe in their own home.
"We take all allegations of sexual offending very seriously. The evidence presented by the Crown Prosecution Service resulted in the jury reaching their guilty verdicts and has brought Powell to justice.”
Evan Powell was sentenced on 3 July 2025 to five years’ imprisonment with an extended licence period of four years, along with a 10 year restraining order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
