Man sentenced for assault, firearms offences and dangerous driving over drug debt
A man who went to a south Wales property to enforce a drug debt has been sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.
Michael Dumbuya, 27, drove from London, but went to the address of a man who had nothing to do with the matter.
The man was dragged from his bed in the early hours of 20 May 2025, and was punched and kicked repeatedly, before the attacker left.
Police located the suspect’s vehicle on the M4 near Caerleon and pursued it until it left the M4 at junction 17, where it crashed into another motorist.
Dumbuya was seen climbing out of the driver’s side window and was arrested.
Police recovered a loaded sawn-off shotgun from Dumbuya’s car, along with a balaclava, gloves and a CO2 powered pistol.
Millie Davies of the CPS said: “To be confronted and viciously attacked by a stranger in your house at night must have been a frightening experience.
“Michael Dumbuya had planned the attack and armed himself with dangerous weapons before subjecting the victim to a prolonged assault.
“The Crown Prosecution Service presented evidence showing there was DNA on the firearms which matched Dumbuya and he also had the victim’s blood on his clothes.
“Dumbuya also tried to evade police by driving at high speeds for a considerable distance along the motorway, showing no regard for the safety of others.”
Dumbuya was sentenced on 19 December 2025 to 14 years and 5 months’ imprisonment with an extended licence of four years. He was also disqualified from driving for 15 years and 8 months and ordered to take an extended driving test.
