A man who wreaked havoc across Leeds by committing thefts against several businesses and homes in a 48-hour crime spree has been jailed.

Between 5pm on Sunday, 7 June and 6.30am on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, Kyle Hirst committed various robbery, burglary and theft offences including stealing from an Amazon delivery van, two convenience stores, a Greggs, and a private residence – making off with numerous items, including a car.

In the Armley area of Leeds, Hirst, 35, first took several parcels from a parked Amazon delivery van – discarding others on the floor.

Approximately ten minutes later, he brazenly entered the home of a woman where he admitted to stealing the parcels he was carrying, before taking a set of car keys belonging to the victim’s daughter. Hirst placed some of the stolen Amazon parcels in her red Mazda and fled.

However, he left behind some of the stolen parcels, which later helped link him to the earlier crime.

At approximately 7.55am the next morning, 8 June, Hirst entered a convenience store in Cow Close Road where he forcibly took £150 from the cash till.

A few hours later, Hirst entered a convenience store in Thornhill Road where he threatened to rob the shop worker.

After a scuffle, Hirst punched the victim – who suffered facial injuries – before making off with his watch and fleeing.

For his final stop, at around 6.30am the following day, Hirst entered a Greggs store in Butt Lane and began filling a black bin liner with a large quantity of sandwich products. When a customer tried to stop Hirst, a struggle ensued – only ending when Hirst threatened the customer with further violence.

On 13 July 2026 at Leeds Crown Court, the defendant pleaded guilty to the following offences:
•    Robbery
•    Burglary
•    Theft x 3
•    Taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent
•    Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
•    Assault by beating

Today, at the same court, Hirst was sentenced to 5 years and 5 months imprisonment.

Helen Davies, a Senior Crown Prosecutor with CPS Yorkshire and Humberside, said: “This was an appalling spate of offending which no doubt has caused lasting trauma for those caught up in it.

“With a wealth of witness and CCTV evidence stacked against him, it was little surprise that Hirst pleaded guilty to his reckless crime spree at the first opportunity – meaning he was arrested, charged and convicted in just one month.

“Hirst seemed to think he was above the law and that his actions wouldn’t have consequences – today’s sentence proves otherwise.

“As he has been convicted and faces imprisonment, we hope the victims of this offending can take a degree of comfort and feel that justice has been rightly served.”
