Birmingham man sentenced for 3D printed gun manufacturing
A Birmingham man has been sentenced for possessing a home-made firearm and ammunition without a licence.
Carl Walker, 50, of Monyhull Hall Road, Birmingham, was sentenced today (28 November 2025) at Birmingham Crown Court to 16 months' imprisonment, suspended for two years.
He had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm without a certificate, possessing ammunition without a firearm certificate and possession of a flick-knife at an earlier hearing on 5 September 2025 at the same court.
On 14 March 2025, police executed a warrant under section 46 of the Firearms Act 1968 at Walker's house where the full scale of his illegal activity was discovered.
Officers found a partially manufactured 3D-printable, semi-automatic 9mm firearm hidden in a wardrobe and 9mm bullets found alongside components and tools required to complete the weapon.
Police also found over 50 knives, including hunting knives, a flick-knife, a samurai sword in a black sheath hidden under the mattress, and some knives concealed within Walker's bed. Officers also seized a crossbow with bolts, blow-pipes with darts, and an instruction manual for manufacturing a homemade 9mm sub-machine gun.
Douglas Marshall from the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Carl Walker was found to have a worryingly large armoury of weapons, including a nearly completed 3D-printed firearm and compatible ammunition.
“The Crown Prosecution Service worked closely with West Midlands Police to build a robust case that left him no option but to plead guilty.
“We will continue to prosecute those who seek to produce and possess home-made firearms with the full force of the law."
