Teenagers sentenced over fatal stabbing at bus station

|News

Two teenagers have been sentenced following the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old boy outside Bedford bus station in January.

After a seven-week trial, Bennett Ndenkeh, 19, was convicted of murdering Thomas Taylor.

Eighteen-year-old Riaz Miah was convicted of manslaughter for his part in the attack.

On the day of the incident, 8 January 2025, Ndenkeh and Miah approached Thomas as he walked with friends near Greenhill Street.

An altercation broke out during which Thomas was fatally stabbed. Both offenders fled the scene.

During the trial, the jury heard how the attack followed a previous assault on Miah by someone linked to Thomas.

After this the two teenagers arranged to meet in the town centre where the confrontation turned violent.

Lisa Kiff, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “This tragic case is a devastating reminder of the consequences when young people choose to carry knives. One violent moment ended Thomas’s life and changed the lives of many others.

“CCTV footage and phone messages provided us with the evidence we needed to build a strong case to secure convictions for these two defendants.

“Our thoughts remain with Thomas’s family and friends as they continue to navigate life without him.”

On 10 October at Luton Crown Court, Ndenkeh was jailed for 22 years. Miah received a sentence of eight years' imprisonment.
