Four people convicted of fatal acid attack in Plymouth

Four people have been convicted of their involvement in the murder of Danny Cahalane, who died following an acid attack in Plymouth.

Abdulrasheed Adedoja and Israel Augustus were convicted of murder at Winchester Crown Court today.

Paris Wilson and Ramarnee Bakas were convicted of manslaughter. Wilson was also convicted of attempted kidnapping, along with Arrone Mukuna and Jean Mukuna. This charge related to a separate incident that took place around one month before Danny’s murder.

Danny Cahalane, 38, was attacked at his home on Lipson Road, Plymouth, on 21 February 2025, after two men broke into his home and carried out a violent assault.

During the incident, sulphuric acid was thrown, causing Danny extensive and catastrophic injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he died ten weeks later, on 3 May.

Before his death, Danny was able to tell the police a great deal about the attack on him, including who he believed was responsible and that the motive had been a drug debt that he owed. He also told them about an attempted attack one month earlier on 19 January 2025, where three men approached him in his car.

Laura Burgess of the Crown Prosecution Service said:

“This was an exceptionally complex case involving significant quantities of phone, digital and CCTV evidence, and required close collaboration with the police investigative team to build the strongest possible case for presentation to the jury.

“Danny’s own words, shared with police while hospital staff did their best to try to save him, were key to securing the conviction of his killers.

“The jury carefully considered all of the evidence presented to them and returned their verdicts after a lengthy trial.

“Our thoughts remain with Danny Cahalane’s family and friends who have had to endure the devastating consequences of this crime.”
