Pensioner jailed following a decade of sex offences against young boys

A pensioner has been jailed today following a decade of non-recent sexual abuse against boys.

Roy Green, now 81, was jailed for 21 years at Preston Crown Court. The Crown Prosecution Service successfully applied for a sexual harm prevention order to prevent further offending.

Alex Mann of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Roy Green groomed and coerced the young boys in his community for his own sexual gratification despite the fact they could never consent to sexual activity.

“He positioned himself as a responsible man, helping youngsters in a youth football team, but his motives were much more sinister.

“He got to know the boys, offering them lifts home and over time groomed them using sweets, chocolate, cigarettes and sometimes alcohol.

“Green exploited the boys with no concern for them or the impact his abuse from a young age would have on their lives.

“I hope the victims can now begin to move forward knowing that because of their evidence and support, Roy Green has been brought to justice.

“The CPS is dedicated to pursuing justice for victims of child sexual abuse and will continue to work with our policing partners to prosecute the perpetrators of these heinous acts – no matter how much time has passed since they committed their crimes.”

Roy Green was in his early fifties when he started grooming the victims, targeting those from vulnerable backgrounds to manipulate and groom them for his own ends.

He was part of a youth football club when he targeted boys grooming them over time with cigarettes, chocolate, pornography and alcohol.

Green’s home became a magnet for his victims, somewhere they believed they could go to relax and have the treats they wanted.

Having secured their trust, Green then started to abuse them and coerced them into sexual activity. The youngest was just seven when the abuse began.

His vile abuse came to light when the boys began reporting what had happened to them.

Green was arrested and made no comment in his police interviews.

He went on to plead guilty to 32 offences on 15 December 2025, at his first appearance before Preston Crown Court.

Green was sentenced at the same court on 2 April 2026.

The court heard from the victims, through their victim impact statements, how his vile abuse had affected their lives, before passing sentence.

His abuse affected their whole lives, including relationships, their ability to trust others and show affection. Some suffered with their mental health, with anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
