Man who killed teenager in fatal e-bike collision convicted of murder
A man who used his car to kill a teenager on a stolen e-bike has been convicted of murder.
Terrence King, 60, was convicted of killing 15-year-old Devon Simmonds-Caines after using his car to crash into him while he was riding the electronic bicycle.
Devon suffered multiple serious injuries as a result of the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On July 17, 2026, King was found guilty of murder following a trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court.
Sobia Ahmed, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Terrence King was enraged when he saw Devon Simmonds-Caines on the stolen e-bike.
“Rather than contacting the police, King deliberately took matters into his own hands and drove directly at Devon, at speed, with fatal consequences.
“He claimed that he had no intention to hit the teenager, but this was rejected by the jury when they found him guilty of murder.
“Devon was a 15-year-old boy with his whole life ahead of him. My thoughts are with Devon’s parents who must bear this unimaginable loss.”
On 22 July 2025, King saw Devon on the stolen e-bike at the side of the road on Rowrah Crescent, he steered straight at him and, without braking, hit him.
The collision caused serious injuries to Devon and despite the best efforts of paramedics he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In his police interview, King claimed that his intention was to block the bike, not to drive into the teenager.
Following the trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, King was found guilty of murder.
He will be sentenced at the same court on July 23.
