Man sentenced over Manchester Airport incident
A man has been sentenced for an attack against police officers and a civilian at Manchester Airport.
Mohammed Fahir Amaaz, 21, from Rochdale was previously convicted of one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating, and assault on an emergency worker.
Today he was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to three-and-a-half years' imprisonment.
The incident began inside the airport’s Terminal 2 Starbucks coffee shop after Amaaz assaulted a passenger who had just come off a flight, and moved into another part of the airport when arresting officers arrived – leaving one police officer with a broken nose in front of bystanders including young children on 23 July 2024.
Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, said: “This was a violent incident in front of families in a busy airport which left a police officer needing medical assistance.
“The CCTV footage and witness testimonies demonstrated to the jury exactly how the incident unfolded. It clearly showed the defendant acted unlawfully, leading to the sentence today.”
