The parents of a thirteen-week-old baby boy have been jailed for his murder.

Miguel Pirjani, was admitted to Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool on 24 November 2024 after his father Klevi Pirjani,  of Percy Road in Seacombe, Wallasey, had dialled 999.

He told the Operator that Miguel “just stopped breathing”. When Paramedics arrived, Miguel was in cardiac arrest.

Miguel was transferred to Intensive Care and placed on a ventilator. He was examined and found to have sustained a severe, irreversible brain injury and a number of fractures to his body, which were at various stages of healing.

Klevi and Nivalda Pirjani were both arrested and questioned by police about the death of their baby son. They both refused to answer most questions but gave prepared statements.

On 21 January 2025 the Crown Prosecution Service authorised both parents to be charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

They both denied the charges and the trial started at Liverpool Crown Court on 6 October 2025.

During the trial, on 9 October 2025, Nivalda Pirjani pleaded guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child and then sought to blame her husband for Migiuel’s death. The Crown Prosecution Service refused to accept this and the trial continued.

On 29 October 2025, the jury found both parents guilty of all three offences. On 23 March 2026, at Liverpool Crown Court, they were both jailed for life. 

Klevi Pirjani must serve 19 years before he can be considered for release. Nivalda Pirjani must serve 15 years and three months before she can be considered for release.

At the conclusion of sentencing, the Judge, HHJ Andrew Barker, asked for a minute's silence to honour the memory of Miguel Pirjani. He also commended the work of the paramedics at the scene and the staff at Alder Hey Hospital.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Leigh-Ann Wardman, of CPS Mersey-Cheshire’s Complex Casework unit, said: “Nivalda and Klevi Pirjani were in this together from the start.

“They each encouraged or assisted the other in the infliction of really serious injury to Miguel during his all too short life.

"Our focus has always been on getting justice for Miguel when he was not able to protect himself from those who should have cared and nurtured him.

"We hope the conviction and sentencing of these two people provides some sense of justice for Miguel’s wider family and our thoughts remain with them.”
