What's the role like?

Jason and Zeltia share what they enjoy about their role as head of area operations.

'I work with the chief crown prosecutor to ensure that performance, operational delivery, finance and resourcing is all managed effectively. It's a wide spectrum of different things, but that for me is what makes it interesting.

My role gives me a voice where I can make a difference in the criminal justice system. I can influence change, and that helps support our people to be the best that they can be and to enable them to deliver what they need to do.

If you are somebody that loves to be creative, loves to find solutions, loves to work with people and support and help them to have job enrichment as they grow and develop, then the head of area operations job is for you.'

- Jason, Head of Area Operations

As head of area operations, I line manage all of the operational delivery staff in my regional area. The important thing about the role is that you are the facilitator for all colleagues in the area to achieve their full potential, and to ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes for the society that they are working for.

What we do at the Crown Prosecution Service is really compelling. We make decisions that ultimately change people's lives, and we make decisions that have a real impact on society. So, I think the most important skill is being level-headed and being calm in the face of a crisis. Quite often, things happen in an area that require you to very quickly understand what is at the heart of the issue and what the key risk is.

It's a really rewarding role. You are always learning something new. You are always feeling stretched and feeling as though, actually, I've achieved something today. And that's the best feeling in the world.'
