Two teenagers sentenced for rape in Leamington Spa

Two 17-year-old asylum seekers have been convicted of the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Leamington Spa.

Israr Niazal and Jan Jahanzeb both admitted rape and were sentenced at Warwick Crown Court today (8 December 2025). Jahanzeb was detained for 10 years and eight months, while Niazal was detained for nine years and 10 months.

The victim, who had been socialising with friends, was separated from her group before being dragged away forcibly by one of the defendants and assaulted on 10 May 2025.

Evidence due to be presented at trial included distressing video footage recorded by the victim, which captured the events leading up to the offence.

Both Niazal and Jahanzeb were found to have participated in the attack and each committed rape.

Ben Samples, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for the West Midlands CPS Complex Casework Unit and Serious Violence, Organised Crime and Exploitation Unit, said: “These convictions reflect the deliberate and deeply harmful choices made by the defendants, who targeted and assaulted a vulnerable young victim.

“Rape is a profoundly damaging crime, leaving lasting emotional and psychological scars on victims and their families. The evidence in this case including recordings and the victim’s own testimony, made clear the defendants’ responsibility for the suffering caused.

“The CPS is unwavering in its commitment to prosecuting sexual offences robustly and supporting victims at every stage.

“We work closely with police and partner agencies to ensure that those who choose to commit such devastating crimes are held fully accountable, and that victims receive the justice and support they deserve.”

In CPS West Midlands over the last recorded year between April 2024 and March 2025:
•    We charged 247 adult rape cases.
•    We authorised charges in 7 out of every 10 rape or serious sexual assault cases brought to us for a decision by police.
•    Our conviction rate for adult rape cases was just over 50%.
