School technician apprentice sentenced for upskirting teenage girls at school

|News, Sexual offences

A school technician apprentice has been sentenced to a 36-month community order for upskirting teenage girls and making indecent imagery of children in Bradford.

The Crown Prosecution Service prosecuted Lewis Lawson-Brett, 22, for upskirting multiple teenage girls at a school where he was employed as an apprentice technician.

Lawson-Brett has pleaded guilty at Bradford Crown Court for three charges of voyeurism and three charges of making indecent images of children and has been sentenced to a 36-month community order

The victims were teenage girls at a school in West Yorkshire where Lawson-Brett was employed on a technician apprenticeship scheme.

The incidents all took place on 24 May 2024. CCTV footage showed Lawson-Brett repeatedly walking near unsuspecting female students and taking pictures up their skirts.

Lawson-Brett was seen upskirting three different female teenage students and checking his phone afterwards.

The offender’s line manager was asked to review the CCTV footage after another member of staff raised concerns about his behaviour.

After looking at the footage, Lawson-Brett was reported to the police and arrested that afternoon.

Throughout his interviews, Lawson-Brett failed to answer most questions, refusing to provide the password or explain what was contained in a secure folder on his phone.

After his questioning, the police downloaded Lawson-Brett’s phone and discovered several videos and images taken which confirmed the upskirting offences as well other examples of extreme pornography.

Chris Hartley of the CPS said: “Lewis Lawson-Brett targeted teenage girls, abusing his position of authority to take explicit photos of children. This was done without their knowledge for his own grotesque gratification.

“Lawson-Brett’s crimes are deeply serious, and I hope his sentence sends a stark warning that we will come down on anyone who seeks to harm children with the full force of the law.

“The CPS continues to work closely with the police in bringing sexual predators to justice and clamping down on upskirting and voyeuristic crimes.”
