Help us improve how we explain our work on rape and serious sexual assault

THIS CONSULTATION IS NOW CLOSED

As part of our work on rape and serious sexual offences we’ve made a commitment to improve the information we provide to victims, supporters and the public about how we charge and prosecute these cases.

To meet this commitment we’ve produced three documents.

1. A CPS guide for victims of rape and serious sexual assault

This is a step-by-step guide designed to give victims and their supporters one place to go to understand the process of a criminal trial and what they can expect at each stage.

It can be read in full but it also gives victims the option to easily select the stage in the case that they want information about.

It’s available as an online guide on our website, which includes written and video content, and also as a downloadable PDF in English and Welsh.

2. Our commitment to rape victims

This is a shorter summary of the commitments we make to rape victims about how we will support them through their case.

It’s available as a webpage and as a downloadable PDF in English and Welsh.

3. CPS policy statement – how we charge and prosecute rape cases

This is a more detailed policy statement which sets out how we approach our responsibilities in rape cases.

We expect that this statement will be of most interest to those who work within and alongside the criminal justice system – for example support services who work with victims of rape and serious sexual assault, but it may also be of interest to victims, supporters and the wider public.

It’s available as a webpage and as a downloadable PDF in English and Welsh.

Have your say

We’re asking for your feedback on these documents because we want to make sure that we’re getting things right - providing information a clear way that meets the needs of our audiences.

We also want to make sure that we’re considering the needs of all the communities who will use these documents – including people whose first language isn’t English or Welsh – so we’ve included a question on accessibility too.

You can provide feedback on one, two or all three of the documents. You can find the links to access the documents, online or in PDF format below as well as the links to a short survey on each one.
