Man convicted after making antisemitic threats in north London

A man has been convicted following an antisemitic incident in north London over the weekend.

On Saturday 9 May, Dylan Ossei, 34, of Hornchurch, walked through the streets of Enfield, north London, shouting threats at the Jewish community. He then assaulted a man and repeatedly asked if he was Jewish.

He was arrested at the scene.

The case was passed to the CPS out-of-hours service CPS Direct for a charging decision and charges were authorised the next day on Sunday 10 May.

Today he appeared at Highbury Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty to the following offences.

  • Religiously aggravated assault
  • Religiously aggravated fear of violence
  • Religiously aggravated harassment

Lisa Ramsarran, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: "Dylan Ossei assaulted a man and made targeted threats of violence towards the Jewish community in what must have been a terrifying ordeal for those around.

"Hate crimes like this cause harm that extends far beyond the immediate victims - they send a message of fear to entire communities.

“We acted swiftly to charge this offending and bring the defendant before the court today where he has entered guilty pleas. We will be inviting the court to impose an uplifted sentence to reflect the serious hate crime element of this case.

“The CPS will always robustly prosecute those who seek to intimidate and threaten communities in this way."
