CPS Proceeds of Crime Confiscation orders - value of assets recovered and amount returned to victims

Request

For the year 2022/23 I would like to request:

  1. The value of assets recovered from criminals in CPS Confiscation order
  2. The proportion when CPS Proceeds of Crime Division acted as lead enforcement agency
  3. The amount returned to victims.

Response

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) does collate and record information falling within the scope of your request and so, I attach an Excel spreadsheet labelled ‘12341 DATA’. The caveats appended to that data should be noted when considering that disclosure.

Proceeds of crime

Proceeds of crime is the term given to money or assets gained by criminals during the course of their criminal activity. The authorities, including the CPS, have powers to seek to confiscate these assets so that crime doesn’t pay. By taking out the profits that fund crime, we can help disrupt the cycle and prevent further offences.

The CPS has a specialist unit dedicated to asset recovery – CPS Proceeds of Crime Division (CPS POCD) - which is based within the Serious Economic, Organised Crime and International Directorate (SEOCID).
