The first prison sentences have been handed down for those involved in one of the recent incidents of disorder in the North East of England.

A man who attacked a complete stranger at her home in Hastings, after forcing his way in, has been found guilty of rape and attempted rape.

Constance Marten, 38, and Mark Gordon, 50, have been found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter of their baby girl, Victoria, who was found decomposing in a shopping bag in a disused Brighton shed.

Max Hill QC, Director of Public Prosecutions said: “We know victims of sexual offences can suffer lasting trauma, and too often their experience of the criminal justice system adds to their suffering. The CPS is committed to making the changes needed so that more victims see justice.

This guidance deals with older people as victims and witnesses, not as offenders. It should be read in conjunction with the CPS Policy Guidance on the prosecution of crimes against older people.

A Russian boat captain has been found guilty of gross negligence manslaughter after failing to take any action to prevent a crash between two ships in the North Sea which led to an explosion and the death of a member of crew.
