This is my second annual report as Independent Assessor of Complaints (IAC). My first was published jointly with my predecessor Stephen Shaw, with whom I overlapped as IAC for six months to ensure a smooth handover. I joined Stephen as IAC in November 2018, and I became the sole IAC in May 2019. I am grateful to Stephen for his assistance as I settled into the role.
Rape is a truly devastating and life changing crime. We are committed to significantly increasing the number of cases going to court and sustaining this year on year. We are determined to see justice for more victims of rape and serious sexual offences, and as leaders we pledge to be visible, accountable and transparent as we work towards this aim.

A young mother, who killed her newborn baby by placing her in a cereal box shortly after birth and concealing the box in a suitcase, has been convicted of murder.
