A new Director General will take up post at the Crown Prosecution Service this Autumn.

Three men and three women from France who pretended to be tourists were jailed today (Friday 27 February) after they were caught in a convoy of cars bringing three Vietnamese nationals into the UK.

The CPS can be a party to an action in civil law arising out of our advisory or statutory functions under the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985.

The Crown Court deals with the most serious criminal cases. Each case is overseen by a judge who is responsible for setting out the timetable in the case, making a judgement on any legal questions (such as whether certain types of evidence can be used) and sentencing the defendant if they are convicted.

Five men have been sentenced to a total of five years for their roles in running a vehicle “chop shop” in Surrey with the stolen vehicles and parts estimated to be worth around £750,000.
