The Criminal Justice Joint Inspection have today issued a report following their joint Inspection of the progress of individuals who have mental health problems through the criminal justice system.

Update: On 21 August 2024 at Liverpool Crown Court, Luke Moran was jailed for three years. A man has admitted battering a police vehicle, leaving officers trapped inside and fearing for their lives, as part of riots in Southport.

This is a summary of responses to the public consultation undertaken by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on the revised legal guidance prepared to update its current Mentally Disordered Offenders legal guidance, and a statement of the revisions proposed which will form the finalised guidance to be issued.

The indictment is the document containing the charges against the defendant for trial in the Crown Court.

The CPS is committed to ensuring that the special considerations which apply to cases involving a young offender are enshrined in its working practices and form part of the training of its prosecutors.

This guidance describes why consents to prosecute are required and when they are necessary. It also identifies the timing of consents and their application.

This guidance deals with the legal and technical issues that arise when considering offences relating to drink/drug driving. The purpose of the guidance is to assist prosecutors with: selection of appropriate charges, including alternative offences for trial purposes, consideration of relevant statutory defences tools to address common defence challenges.
