CPS announces man charged in relation to Portsmouth disorder
The Crown Prosecution Service has today announced Del Leon Somerville, 42, of Portsmouth, has been charged with violent disorder and assaulting a constable, following disorder in Portsmouth on Sunday evening.
Chris Derrick, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor, of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “We have decided to prosecute Del Leon Somerville with violent disorder and assaulting a constable following an investigation into alleged offending during protests held in Portsmouth on Sunday evening.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We have worked closely with Hampshire and IOW Constabulary as it has carried out its investigation.
“We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against the defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.
“It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
