Length of time for charging decisions in sexual assault and robbery cases

|FoI Release, Sexual offences

Please can you provide answer the below two questions, which I ask under Freedom of Information law?

1. For each financial quarter from Q1 2019/20 until the most recent financial quarter for which data is available, what was the average length of time from first submission by the police to the CPS to decision to charge, in each of the following offences in England and Wales:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Robbery

2. For each of the four financial years between 2019/20 and now, what is the “rolling year to date” average timeliness figures the two offences above?

For clarity I should explain I am seeking information which expands on data the CPS already publishes, but only in relation to the offences of rape, domestic abuse, child abuse and modern slavery.

Described as “Average timeliness of charging decisions”, this information was most recently published here: https://www.cps.gov.uk/publication/cps-data-summary-quarter-3-2022-2023

Where, under Tab 2.2 of the linked spreadsheet “Pre-Charge Data Tables Year Ending December 2022 (Excel spreadsheet)” the ‘timeliness’ figures are provided in relation to rape, domestic abuse, child abuse and modern slavery offences.

This FOI is an attempt to obtain comparable data for the two offences of sexual assault and robbery.

Response

Please refer to the attached excel document labelled as 'FoI request 11298 Attachment' which shows the data pertaining to your request. Data has been provided for Q1 2019/2020 through to Q3 2022/2023, in line with the CPS’ publication policy for published figures. The caveats included on the tab ‘caveats’ should be read in conjunction with the data.
