A youth from Birmingham has been sentenced to a minimum term of 14 years and 3 months, detained at Her Majesty’s pleasure, after he pleaded guilty to murdering 18 year old Hazrat Umar. Despite onlookers shouting at him to stop and stating that the police had been called, the youth continued to attack the victim with a “Rambo” style knife.

The offence took place in the afternoon of the 25 February 2019. CCTV footage showed the victim and his attacker walking together before the victim was viciously attacked from behind. The victim was stabbed multiple times before a struggle, where the victim collapsed to the floor. His attacker stamped on him several times before calmly walking away. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene having suffered a fatal wound to his heart.

Claire Nicholls, District Crown Prosecutor, at CPS West Midlands said “This is a truly horrifying attack which happened in broad daylight and a young boy has tragically lost his life to knife crime.

"The CPS will continue to robustly prosecute cases of this nature and my deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victim.”
