Two men jailed for sexually abusing teenage girls

Two men have today been jailed for a total of 38 years after they were found guilty for their part in the sexual abuse and prostitution of teenage girls in Rugby and Coventry.

A jury at Warwick Crown Court heard that between 1993 and 2015, the defendants identified six young and vulnerable victims who they then manipulated through physical violence and sexual abuse.

Last year two of the victims approached the police separately to claim that 55-year-old Peter Jones had drugged them and then proceeded to rape them.

A police investigation led to further victims being identified as well a further defendant, 53-year-old defendant Raymond Dickens, who the victims claimed had also raped them and forced one of the teenagers into prostitution.

The defendants were found guilty and sentenced as follows:

  • Peter Jones – Rape x 3; kidnapping, false imprisonment x 2, Administering drugs in order to obtain intercourse, causing or inciting prostitution x 2, sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. 22 years' imprisonment with an extended licence period of eight years.
  • Raymond Dickens – Rape x 2; indecent assault x 4, procuring a woman/girl to become a common prostitute and false imprisonment. 16 years' imprisonment.

Ian Crooks, Senior Crown Prosecutor with the West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “I would like to first pay tribute to the courage and support of the victims who have assisted the prosecution team in helping us to bring these dangerous individuals to justice.

“These defendants exploited the situation that these young vulnerable victims had found themselves in order to sexually abuse them and in Dickens case, force one of the victims into prostitution for monetary gain.

“When the victims tried to resist or if they tried to escape from Jones and Dickens, they would use fear and violence in order for them to succumb to their demands.

“The CPS and our partner agencies are working together to identify and support victims of form of sexual exploitation, and robustly prosecute those who commit such crimes.”
