CPS statement on sentencing in Sandris Abimeicevs murder trial

|News, Violent crime

Olegas Borisovski, Saulius Lemezonas and Vytautus Medeckis were sentenced today (Friday 22 November) for the murder of Sandris Abimeicevs, a homeless man who was beaten to death, wrapped in a sleeping bag and left on the street.

A recording of the beating was found on Medickis’ phone.

All three men were convicted following the trial yesterday at Birmingham Crown Court for murdering Mr Abimeicevs who was staying with them at a property in Walford Road, Sparkbrook in November 2018.

Olegas Borisovski, was sentenced to 18 years.

Saulius Lemezonas was sentenced to 20 years.

Vytautus Medeckis was sentenced to 20 years.

Claire Nicholls of the CPS said: “This was a horrific attack where three men ganged up on Mr Abimeicevs and inflicted unimaginable pain on him over the course of a number of hours. They treated him inhumanely, calling him a ‘rat’ and subjected him to a protracted assault, over 50 injuries, a brain injury and then they dumped him on the street like a bag of rubbish.

"I cannot imagine the pain he must have endured in his last moments of life and whilst today’s sentencing can never replace their loss, I hope the fact justice has been delivered brings some comfort to Mr Abimeicevs’ loved ones.”
