Sex attacker jailed for raping 83-year-old woman

|News, Sexual offences

A man who raped an elderly woman after entering her house at night has been jailed for 13 years and eight months.

Keith Brown, 55, of Malvern, Worcestershire, was sentenced today (16 December 2020) at Worcester Crown Court for one count of rape against the 83-year-old woman after pleading guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing.

On 12 August 2020, the woman, who lived alone, was in bed when Brown, who was not known to her, forced his way into her home and attacked her in her bedroom. The terrified victim tried to fight him off but he overpowered her and orally raped her, and then further sexually assaulted her. He also threatened that he would return the following day.

The woman managed to escape from Brown, and she ran to her neighbours' address for safety, where her neighbours alerted the police. The police arrived with a dog handler and the dog tracked from the rear gate of the victim’s property along the road for 100 metres to a vehicle in a layby. The defendant was the only occupant of the vehicle and he was arrested for rape.

Iain Willis of the CPS, said “It is utterly horrific that an elderly lady was subjected to a sexual attack at night in her own home by a stranger. I am pleased that the court have recognised the seriousness of the defendant’s actions in passing sentence today.

“I would like to pay tribute to the bravery and tenacity of the victim who managed to escape her attacker and summon help. She has shown enormous resilience  and strength of character in assisting the police with their enquiries and in attending court to see the defendant sentenced. We must all recognise the enormity of the trauma that offending of this sort inflicts on individuals. The CPS always works hard to bring sex offenders to justice.”
