72 year old paedophile sent to prison

|News, Violent crime

John Butters, 72, from St Albans Close, Swindon, was imprisoned for 20 months. This prolific and violent paedophile will wake up behind bars after being convicted for making child pornography, attempting to have a sexualised communication though Skype with a child and assaulting a police officer.

Appearing before Judge Crabtree OBE at Swindon Crown Court, Butters was also sentenced to 20 months in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Butters had material that fell into the severest category of child pornography. This monstrous material was found on a number of his devices, including laptop computers and USB memory sticks.

His deviant criminal behaviour was discovered by a police investigation involving undercover officers. Butters prolific use of digital devices and use of the internet led police officers to arrest him and following a careful review of the evidence the CPS approved charges.

Butters violently headbutted a police officer when he was arrested. This shocking impromptu attack on the innocent police officer was captured by a body-worn camera.

Joanne Jakymec, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Wessex says "John Butters is a violent man with a disturbing sexual fascination with children. He will spend years in prison for the crimes that he has committed.

"As a result of the overwhelming weight of evidence presented in this case, Butters pleaded guilty to all charges. This is thanks to the work of our dedicated prosecution team in partnership with Wiltshire Police."
