Woman charged with murder - Dunstable

Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has authorised officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit to charge a woman with the murder of a man in Dunstable.

Angela Ayre, aged 73, of Redfield Close, Dunstable, was arrested in the early hours of Friday, 9 March 2018, and was later charged with murder.

Adrian Foster, Chief Crown Prosecutor for Thames and Chiltern Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said: “Following an investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, a file was forwarded to us to consider whether any criminal charges could be brought against Angela Ayre.

“Having carefully reviewed all of the available evidence, Thames and Chiltern CPS authorised officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit to charge the woman with murder.

“The charges are in connection with an incident, which occurred in Redfield Close, Dunstable, late evening on Thursday, 8 March 2018, during which a man in his 50s, from Dunstable, died.

“The decision to charge was taken in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors.”

Angela Ayre was remanded in police custody and appeared at Luton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 10 March 2018.  She was further remanded to appear at Luton Crown Court tomorrow, Tuesday, 13 March 2018.

Criminal proceedings are active and defendants have the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no commentary or reporting which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
