Man sexually abused child at East Lancashire hotel

|News, Sexual offences

A 31-year-old man has been jailed for three years for sexually assaulting a child at Lancashire Manor Hotel, Skelmersdale in Sept 2021.

The child's mother saw Craig Walker acting suspiciously near the child, who was asleep on a chair, and told him to move away.

CCTV had captured Walker stroking the child's legs, placing his jacket over the child and then reaching underneath the jacket.

Craig walker pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to sexual assault of a child under 13 years. He was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Ruby Mckeague for the CPS said: "Craig Walker abused a young child for his own sexual gratification, with no thought for the confusion and distress his actions would cause to the child and their family.

"He initially denied committing the offence but after being presented with the overwhelming evidence against him, including the indisputable CCTV footage, he was left with no option than to plead guilty to the sexual assault.

"This case demonstrates the crucial role both the CPS and the police play in bringing the perpetrators of this dreadful type of offending to justice."
