Man jailed after filming himself raping woman

A 38-year-old man has been jailed for raping a woman while her child was asleep in another room.

Paul Fuller from Brampton was sentenced to thirteen-and-a-half years' imprisonment at Carlisle Crown Court today (7 January 2019) after pleading guilty to two counts of rape, four sexual offences and having three offensive weapons.

He attended the victim's home in Wetheral, Carlisle, in July 2018 with a baton, a meat cleaver and two knives. He threatened her with a knife and filmed himself raping and sexually assaulting her, before leaving the address a short time later in a different outfit.

Isla Chilton from the CPS said: "Paul Fuller carried out a premeditated attack upon the victim after turning up at her address late at night with various weapons and a change of clothes. He subjected her to a horrific ordeal as her young child slept in another room, leaving her in fear for their lives.

"He initially denied the offences, but the CPS worked closely with the police to build a strong case against him leaving him with no other choice but to plead guilty to all nine charges. The prosecution evidence included CCTV of him attending and leaving the victim's home in different outfits, text messages and video footage he had recorded while raping her.

"The victim has shown immense courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation and prosecution against Paul Fuller. As he begins this prison sentence, I hope that she can begin to move forward with her life in the knowledge that he has been brought to justice for his deplorable actions."
