Convicted murderer jailed for child sex offences

|News, Sexual offences

A 55-year-old convicted murderer was today sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment for sexual offences against two children in Manchester in the 2000s.

Karl Golds was found guilty following a trial at Manchester Crown Court last month for a series of horrific sexual offences against two young girls including rape, indecent assault, sexual activity with a child, causing and inciting sexual activity with a child, causing a child to watch a sexual act.

Golds began his abuse whilst on license for his life sentence for murder. He continued to groom, abuse and manipulate his victims over several years and controlled their lives to ensure they kept their silence by intimidation and fear.

As well as a custodial sentence, he was also given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order and must sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Howard Gough, for the CPS, said: "It has taken years for his victims to understand what happened to them and how appallingly they were abused. In a final act of cowardice, Golds made them both relive their experience by giving evidence at a trial. They were terrified that they would not be believed, but the jury found their compelling evidence to be the truth of what had happened, and we thank them for reaching a fair verdict in this harrowing case.

"The tenacity and bravery shown by these young women is outstanding and we would like to thank them for trusting us with their case. They have undoubtedly protected others from being abused, and should be an inspiration to anyone who has suffered similar abuse and are worried about coming forward.

"One of the victims described that she believed going to court would change her life for the better. We sincerely hope this has been the case and they should feel proud and empowered. Gold's second young victim spoke of his not guilty plea as being his last little dig of control. That control is now firmly back in the hands of these women as he begins his prison sentence for the sickening crimes he committed against them."
