Trainee solicitor admits stranger rape near Borough High Street

|News, Sexual offences

A trainee solicitor has admitted raping a stranger and kidnapping another in order to commit a sexual act near Borough High Street.

Wilfred Marodza, 28, followed the first victim before grabbing her from behind and taking her to the secluded parkland area of Dickens Fields in the early hours of 20 July this year. Marodza then stripped and raped her. During the ordeal the victim managed to flee naked, with Marodza pursuing behind, telling bystanders that they were having a 'domestic', before she managed to get into a minicab and escape.

An hour later Marodza, who had been drinking in the area, targeted another lone woman, putting his hand over her mouth and forcing her into Globe Street nearby. When she screamed, Marodza ran off.

Yesterday [Monday, 2 September] at Inner London Crown Court Marodza pleaded guilty to four counts of rape against the first victim and one count of kidnapping and committing an offence with intent to commit a sexual offence against the second victim.

He will be sentenced next month.

Nahid Mannan, from the CPS, said: “This was a horrendous attack on two young lone women. The prosecution case included compelling evidence showing Marodza dragging the two victims to secluded areas and also chasing the naked victim he had just raped.

“Marodza also left his rucksack containing his work identification at the scene of the rape, allowing police to easily identify him.

“The CPS takes crimes against women extremely seriously and I hope this conviction goes some way to provide the victims with a degree of closure.”
