Man jailed for possessing paedophile manuals

|News, Sexual offences

A man who possessed five paedophile manuals including a Harry Potter-inspired child sex abuse manual has been jailed.

Robert Ginn, from Bethnal Green, was also found with more than 17,000 indecent images of children on his computer hard drives. Of these, 526 were Category A images and movies - the most serious kind.

The 56-year-old also had a three-part paedophile manual, which contained guidance on how to abuse children aged between three and eight. These included advice on how to have sex with a child 'safely' as well as how to win a child’s obedience and cooperation.

The 24-page manual, which used references taken from the Harry Potter series of books, contained technical guidance on how not to get caught by the police. Ginn stored his manuals under a folder titled 'playground'.

Today [Monday, 5 November] Ginn was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment for three counts of making indecent photographs of a child and five counts of possessing a paedophile manual at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further notice. Ginn had pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing.

Michael Oatley, from the CPS, said: "Robert Ginn kept a number of paedophile manuals that detailed horrific ways in which to sexually abuse and manipulate young children.

"He also admitted he had downloaded thousands of indecent images of children - more than 500 of these were extreme in their nature.

"It is illegal to download indecent images of children and we will prosecute those who break the law and pose a risk to young people."
