Man jailed for 20 years after repeated rape of schoolgirl

|News, Sexual offences

A man who routinely raped and sexually assaulted a girl over a period spanning five years has today been sentenced to year years in prison.

Adrian Donaldson, 37, raped the schoolgirl throughout her adolescence at an address in Tottenham.

Donaldson, who was known to the victim, would threaten her with violence and repeatedly told her no one would believe her if she reported his actions.

His assaults even resulted in two pregnancies, the first when she was just 14, forcing her to lie to her mother about who the father was.

The rapes and assaults were finally uncovered in January 2020 when Donaldson was arrested, but he continued to deny what he had done and insisted the teenager was making it all up.

After she had given evidence, her interview was played in court and the teenager was cross-examined, Donaldson finally admitted to raping and sexually assaulting her.

On 4 September at Wood Green Crown Court he was jailed for 20 years and has been given a sexual harm prevention order for life.

Jane Ndeti of the CPS said: “Donaldson’s sustained and prolonged abuse and rape of this young girl throughout her adolescent years is abhorrent.

“That he then tried to deny what he had done, despite medical evidence and witness statements which contradicted his lies, shows his depravity.

“It took great courage for the teenager to testify in court against Donaldson’s lies and I would like to commend her for her bravery, as this supported our case.

“Where there is sufficient evidence to prosecute for rape or sexual assault, we will do our absolute best to secure justice for victims of these awful crimes.”
