Pair guilty of indecent assaults on schoolboy
A retired teacher and his former partner have been found guilty of indecently assaulting a schoolboy more than three decades ago.
Richard Barton-Wood, 68, was convicted alongside Danielle Perrett, 59, at Ipswich Crown Court today, 31 January 2018.
The victim, who was aged 13 to 15 years old at the time of the assaults, was a pupil at a school where Barton-Wood taught English.
Barton-Wood was found guilty of seven counts of indecent assault and one count of attempted indecent assault, and his then partner Perrett, was found guilty of six counts of indecent assault.
The court was told that Barton-Wood sexually abused the schoolboy outside of school hours on camping and boating trips and also at Barton-Wood's home in Debenham, Suffolk.
It was through Barton-Wood that the schoolboy met Danielle Perrett, who also began abusing him.
The pair will be sentenced next month.
Sally Hickling for the CPS said: “Barton-Wood and Perrett both individually preyed on a schoolboy more than 30 years ago and today, despite the passage of time, have been convicted of sexually abusing him.
“Danielle Perrett had sex on several occasions with the boy. This was not intercourse between consenting adults but sexual abuse by an adult on a young teenage boy who was too young to give proper consent.
“We would like to thank the victim for giving evidence against two people who abused him as a teenager and hope he can take some comfort from the verdicts today.”
