Family friend sentenced for murdering teenager at takeaway

|News, Violent crime

Chun Xu has been sentenced to life imprisonment at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court after being found guilty of murdering 16-year-old Wenjing Lin at the Blue Sky takeaway and attempting to murder her stepfather.

Chun Xu, 32, visited the family who lived above the takeaway in the Rhondda in March 2021, and stayed with them overnight. The following morning, as the teenager was preparing to go to school, Chun Xu strangled her to death before attacking her stepfather in the basement of the property with two knives.

Thomas Edwards of the CPS said: “Chun Xu took the life of an innocent girl who had a bright future ahead of her, and whilst this conviction will see him answer for that, it can never change what happened.

“The evidence presented by the CPS at court showed that he had also brought a knife with him to the property and used it to attack someone.

“Our thoughts have been with the victims and their family throughout and will remain with them.”

Chun Xu was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of thirty years.
