Mirfield Man’s Killers Sentenced to 47 years in Jail

21/02/2013

At Leeds Crown Court Joe Church and Arron Smith were sentenced today to 25 and 22 years respectively for the murder of Josh Hirst at his parents’ house in Mirfield on 3 August 2012. Kirsty Rainford received 21 months after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to assisting an offender.

Stephen Rushton, Senior Crown Prosecutor, CPS Yorkshire and Humberside said:

"This was a brutal and senseless attack on a young man who had his whole life in front of him. Joe Church and Aaron Smith are now facing a total between them of 47 years behind bars, but Josh's family will have to suffer a lifetime of loss.

"The successful outcome of this case, and the sentences handed down today will send out a clear message that this type of violent crime will not be tolerated in our communities.  I hope that this gives some comfort to Joshs family and friends at this terrible time. Our thoughts remain with them."
