Death of Lydia Bishop – York College found guilty

06/01/2014

CPS statement following the successful prosecution of York College, following the death of three year old Lydia Bishop, who died after becoming entangled in a rope on a slide at the York College Nursery.

Richard Hebbert, reviewing lawyer, CPS Yorkshire and Humberside Complex Casework Unit, said: "This was a terribly tragic case involving the completely needless death of Lydia Bishop, a little girl of three, who had her whole life ahead of her. We worked closely with North Yorkshire Police on this case and, today, York College has been found guilty of a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act, having failed in their duty of care to Lydia. Our thoughts remain with Lydia's family and we hope that today's verdict brings them some comfort."
